9 out of 10 doctors recommend you don't write a professional article while you have 13-hour jetlag. Surely the 10th doctor is onto something. This is the WiiLink News.

    Something to check out

This month, we've introduced something really big: WiiLink Checkout. What is WiiLink Checkout you might ask? Well, it's the new home for your WiiLink Account, storing all of your Wii playtime and userdata from WiiLink channels. While this isn't a Wii channel, this is an equally large development that changes the way you use your Wii!

WiiLink Checkout requires having a WiiLink Account linked to your Wii. Once you have a Wii linked to your account, you can see your Wii playdata, Nintendo Channel recommendations, Everybody Votes Channel poll answers and Mii Contest Channel submissions all in the same place. You can go indepth into your data to see the specifics of all your data, and share your profile with friends! You can share your profile either through a link, or share an image tag featuring your total playtime and recently played games. You can also follow accounts, so you can keep tabs on them directly from the home page.

However, WiiLink Checkout isn't just a information website! WiiLink Checkout is the home of the newly introduced WiiLink Points. Thanks to the fact that we now can keep track of an individual's WiiLink data, we've introduced WiiLink Points, as a new incentive to keep using your Wii and WiiLink channels. By playing and reviewing games, answering polls and submitting Miis to contests, you get WiiLink Points to spend in the Theme Shop! The theme shop sells themes for the Checkout site, and your Checkout profile. Whatever theme you choose for your profile will reflect on anyone else who visits your profile, so choose whatever theme represents you! New themes will be added over time, so please stay tuned.

    CheckoutThemes

WiiLink Checkout is available at checkout.wiilink.ca! More updates to the service are planned too, so keep checking in with Checkout! You'll need to delete your Nintendo Channel savedata before connecting your Wii to Checkout to get accurate playtimes.

    Hear the music

As promised, here's my conversation with flatbeek, creator of Sound Chamber. It's the longest Forming Links we've ever done, where we talk about creating such a different show, music, and other fun anecdotes. The full interview is available now.

    An easy switch

If you didn't know, we run a DNS server! This DNS server is used for sending data to our non-channel services, as well as providing some partner services. Previously, our DNS server was one that we have been using since the days of RiiConnect24. This meant its configuration was archaic, and hard to maintain. For this reason, we decided to move to a new DNS server earlier this month. This change is now complete (and doesn't require any change on your end!) While this is mostly about being easy to maintain the server, we also included a couple changes!

We now support Pretendo's services through our DNS! This means you can now play Wii U games online without a hack through the WiiLink DNS. We also migrated Animal Crossing: City Folk item distribution to be handled by us, making all parts of our services all under our direct control. This does mean that the service is unavailable for a little while we figure out how to manage it, but we'll be back soon with item distributions! Stay tuned for more information.

    Tonight's monologue

The Bedroom Talkshow, a previous Creator Spotlight feature, is now a WiiLink Original! Episode 2 is now available on Wii Room, now all in its own category. Check it out on Wii and DSi!

    New world order

Starting this month, we've starting building up a new team for Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese localizations! This shouldn't concern English speaking users too much, but it does mean some of our team members can now focus more on specific roles, and not be stretched as thin as they used to. Even if you may not see them, they'll be essential in making sure we can focus our efforts on each version of Wii Room! Thanks guys.

    The usual suspect

Homebrew Tea for August 2026 is available on Wii Room! Homebrew Tea is back on a monthly schedule, and this month features updates on Android emulation frontends. The episode is available now on Wii and DSi.

That's it for this month! WiiLink Checkout is a feature some of us in the team has been very excited to introduce, including me! The fact that we now have a points system means you can now be rewarded for using your Wii and WiiLink more. That's something that really excites us, and we can't wait to do new things with it. Until then, take care!
